The NDSM-Shipyard has now gained a great deal of popularity and the commercial foxes creep around the area ready to pounce in order to build large office blocks and dull apartment buildings. Under the guise of generating a “creative industry” they will very quickly remove the innovative pioneers and the project’s heart.
If an urban area is ill maintained and ignored, the regular inhabitants move away, artists move in and occupy and renovate the buildings. Picturesque restaurants and interesting shops appear; and the area regains its character. Project developers see potential. They buy the real estate and clean out the studios and housing leading to the artists and creative entrepreneurs disappearing. Expensive apartment blocks are built and sold and the project developers then also disappear.
